Clearing & Forwarding involves managing the customs procedures and documentation required for the import and export of goods. Proper clearing & forwarding is crucial for the smooth movement of goods to clients in the country and across borders. This includes preparing and submitting necessary customs paperwork, paying applicable duties and taxes. WFS also provides expert advice on the optimal import and export options. Once goods are cleared, WFS then handles the transportation aspect; organising the best carriers, routes, and timing to get your goods from point A to point B, stress-free.

WFS employs a team of experienced C&F agents who handle all aspects of the clearing & forwarding process. Using WFS ensures compliance with all customs regulations, reduces the risk of unnecessary delays and penalties and streamlines the import/export process, saving time and resources. WFS enjoys access to a state-of-the-art global track and trace system to update customers on the status and whereabouts of their cargo. All that is required, is the air waybill number, railway note or shipment information (e.g. Bill of Lading or container number).
Whether it is setting up a large-scale factory, configuring solar panels, building new bridges or powerplants, WFS offers the full spectrum of planning, staging and end-to-end specialised transport services to coordinate the flow of project-related cargo to fit your project requirements and schedule. WFS' project freight team handles the customs clearance, warehousing and transportation of large, complex, or high-value equipment that often cannot be transported through standard shipping methods referred to as break-bulk. Think of the large mining haul-trucks and equipment for mines, or massive powerplant transformers.

This services is aimed at industries like energy, construction, mining, and infrastructure development. Project freight services are essential for the movement of heavy machinery, equipment, and materials that are critical to their operations. The company has ample warehousing facilities and storage space in Walvis Bay, Windhoek and Lüderitz.

Shipspares

The division specialises in “hot-shot” or urgent deliveries of spare parts, equipment and other goods used in project cargo, marine repair operations, mining and oil and gas exploration.
WFS provides bonded warehousing and storage space for all types of cargo. WFS provides a special Bond services for cargo in-transit. A bond is a guarantee amount for import duties on cargo. Import duties are paid for goods that stay in Namibia.

If goods are in-transit customers can use the WFS Bond Services to avoid paying for import duties. Customs Duties are levied on imported goods and usually calculated as a percentage on the (FOB) value of the goods. However meat, fish, tea, certain textile products and firearms attract rates of duty calculated either as a percentage of the value or as cents per unit (per kilogram or meter). These levies are a requirement of Customs. In-transit cargo, however, can use the WFS Bond service to avoid paying Import VAT.

Insurance & Liability

Goods in transit are not automatically insured. WFS can arrange insurance on cargo if requested to. WFS is committed to ensuring the safe and secure shipment of cargo within the borders of Namibia. Liability for losses or damages is covered by insurance and as per the terms of our Standard Trading Conditions*.

Quality Management

WFS is ISO 9001, IATA and FIATA accredited and complies with all statutory and international standards governing safety and quality management of logistics. The company is affiliated to a number of regulatory and international logistics entities such as Walvis Bay Corridor Group, the Walvis Bay Port Users Association and the Namibian Logistics Association.

Key Account Management

WFS provides key-account management services, which means you deal only with one central agent to ensure that all your needs and enquiries are attended to swiftly. Our highly skilled staff will also advise clients on the most expedient and cost-saving approach to difficult cargo transhipment situations, the progress of the clearance process and the location and status of their cargo.

Docmentation

For customs clearance of cargo entering or leaving Namibia, proper documentation is essential to ensure smooth processing. Importers and exporters must provide a commercial invoice, bill of lading or airway bill, packing list, and a customs declaration. Depending on the nature of the goods, permits or certificates may be required, such as import/export permits, phytosanitary or veterinary certificates, and certificates of origin.

A Tax Identification Number (TIN) is also necessary for registered traders. Ensuring all documents are accurate and submitted on time helps avoid delays, penalties, or cargo detention at ports or border posts.

The Manica group has made a major leap in cargo logistics with the acquisition of three advanced mobile bulk-to-bagging plants. These innovative units enable direct ship-to-quay bagging of bulk commodities bringing new levels of efficiency, traceability, and speed to the region's logistics chain.

Each plant features two bagging lines equipped with NMI-certified scales for precise weight control, ensuring full traceability of every bag. The system is capable of processing up to 140 tonnes per hour and includes built-in safety features like mesh grids and lockable storerooms for spares. The extendable hoppers, with a capacity of 21 m³, allow for optimal cargo discharge from grabs, significantly improving turnaround time at the berth.

This investment reduces demurrage and lowers overall handling and transport costs by eliminating the need for intermediate warehousing. The mobile nature of the plants allows them to be deployed where needed across the port, offering flexibility for clients handling commodities such as fertiliser, sulphur, minerals, and project cargo. These capabilities are especially crucial for cross-border trade into Zambia and the DRC, where time-sensitive deliveries of inputs like fertiliser and sulphur are key.
Woker Freight Services handles approximately 60 tons of airfreight per month and between 500 and 800 containers per month, and about 480000 tonnes of break bulk and bulk commodities. We have the expertise, experience and the network ability to handle valuable, time critical and dangerous goods on all modes of transport. Our diversity in services, as well as our good standing in the market, combined with size and relationships with several key service providers will allow us to provide the best possible service offering.

Quoting for logistics services isn't as simple as giving a flat price — every shipment is different. The cost can depend on many factors, like the size and weight of the cargo, where it's going, how fast it needs to get there, what mode of transport is used (road, air, or sea), and whether special handling or documents are needed.

That's why we ask for as much detail as possible in our quote request form. The more accurate your information, the easier it is for our team to give you a reliable estimate — faster. It helps us avoid delays, reduce back-and-forth questions, and ensure there are no surprises later.

A complete form means a quicker and more accurate quote for you.

our story

Woker Freight Services (WFS) is Namibia's oldest logistics company, founded in 1924 when Theodor Woker and Walter Maertens opened Maertens & Woker Ltd. Back then, Walvis Bay had no proper quay, and cargo from Europe had to be offloaded from anchored ships using small boats. WFS' early operations focused on serving the Tsumeb Copper Mine (TCL), exporting copper and importing coal from the South African company Sturrock SA Ltd.

In 1936, Woker partnered with Deutsche Ost Afrika Linien (DOAL) of Hamburg —now known as DAL— marking the start of a successful shipping venture that competed with British lines and expanded container operations in Southern Africa.

Business thrived until World War Two, when Woker and thousands of German-speaking Namibians were interned. After the war, and being German speaking, doing business in Walvis Bay was tough, so Woker brought in his good friend Claude Sturrock as a shareholder in the company, which now became known as Sturrock & Woker (Pty) Ltd.

The arrival of containerised freight in 1956 transformed global logistics, and Woker's adaptability drove major improvements in the port of Walvis Bay and beyond.

His vision, humility, and innovation laid the foundation for what WFS is today. Now, WFS is a modern logistics powerhouse, offering end-to-end services—from customs clearing and warehousing to oil and gas support, ship agency, bunkering, and airport ground handling—far beyond its early coal and cargo beginnings.
